TERRY Rymer wants to re-ignite his football career after re-signing for Brightlingsea Regent.

The striker is a legend in the club’s recent history, scoring goals galore and helping them win three promotions in four seasons.

He eventually moved to AFC Sudbury and joined Stanway Rovers in early June.

However, after parting company with the club last week, he grabbed the opportunity to rejoin James Webster’s Regent and he played in Saturday’s 1-0 victory against Maldon & Tiptree.

“There’s such a togetherness here and I know the club inside out, having played here for five years before,” said Rymer, whose other previous clubs include FC Clacton.

“We had a lot of success and I know I’m liked here, which means a lot.

“It’s nice to be at a club where you’re appreciated.

“All the fans are great and I’m really happy to be back, playing in the Ryman League again.

“Things have worked out very well and when the opportunity presented itself to come back, I made my mind up very quickly.

“Hopefully I can start scoring goals again.

“It was nice to play my part in an important win on Saturday.

“I thought I played well and worked hard.

“Maldon try and play and are a good side, so it was an important three points.”

Rymer is keen to “move on” after parting company with Stanway.

Rovers boss Angelo Harrop cited commitment issues as the main reason for letting him leave The Hawthorns, speaking in Friday’s Gazette.

However, Rymer said: “That wasn’t the case at all.

“There was an issue with my contract, which upset me, but I was going to leave anyway, because I haven’t been enjoying it for weeks.

“I haven’t got anything against Ange.

“I respect him and appreciate what he’s trying to do there.

“I’ve always said good things about him and don’t want any bad feelings.

“I just want to move on and hopefully they can too.”

Rymer and his Regent team are back in Ryman League north division action at Bury Town tonight.

New goalkeeper Ollie Bowles will be determined to keep another clean sheet, having impressed on his debut against Maldon.

“He didn’t have a great deal to do in the second half, but was always calm and confident and that’s what you want from your keeper,” said manager Webster.

“It rubs off on the rest of the team.

“He seems like a good lad and wants to progress.

“He’s got ambitions to get back to the level he was at before (National League South, with Concord Rangers).

“If he works hard, I’m sure he will.”
