WIVENHOE TOWN player-assistant manager Ray Turner hopes both he and his team can continue their flying start to the new Thurlow Nunn League season.

The Dragons have kicked-off their division one campaign with three straight wins, to sit hot on the heels of early leaders Halstead Town.

Turner, who joined in the close season after parting company with Stanway Rovers, has netted in all three league games, against Woodbridge, Haverhill Borough and Leiston Reserves.

Now he is setting his sights on more goals and points in tonight’s home match against Cornard United (kick-off 7.45pm).

But while delighted by his side’s start, he says no-one at the club is getting carried away just yet.

“My body was feeling it after Saturday’s game,” said the former FC Clacton boss.

“It was so hot, playing on such hard ground.

“However, I can’t ask for more than three goals in three games and nine points from a possible nine is obviously a great start.

“(Manager) Mo (Osman) and I know there’s plenty to work on, though, and more to come from the boys.

“We’re keeping our feet firmly on the ground.”

Wivenhoe have a mini-break after tonight’s game, having been knocked out of the FA Cup by Tower Hamlets.

Their next fixture is away to Needham Market Reserves on September 5.
