BRIGHTLINGSEA REGENT boss James Webster says Lamell Howell is the “final piece of the jigsaw” in terms of his summer signings.

The Regent boss had been looking for a new attacking player to replace Ben Newson, who left at the end of last season to join Stanway Rovers.

Former Ipswich Town Academy starlet Howell has now followed the likes of Luke Read, Brendan Heath, Josh Mayhew, George Clarke and Luke Milbourne in signing for the North Road club.

And having completed the deal, Webster believes he has a squad fit and ready for the new Ryman League campaign.

“Lamell is the final piece of the jigsaw,” he said.

“I was on the look-out for a new striker – someone who can play anywhere across the front line – and I’m very happy to have brought him in.

“He’s a good lad who wants to work hard and get his career back on track.

“He’s powerful, quick and direct, good with both feet and I’m sure he’s going to be a real asset.”

A long-term injury scuppered Howell’s chances of winning a professional contract at Portman Road.

He attempted to kick-start his career with Needham Market.

However, nothing materialised long-term and now the 19-year-old is keen to start playing regularly for Regent.

“Understandably, he took it hard after missing out on a pro contract,” said Webster, whose side drew 3-3 in their first pre-season friendly at home to Conference South side Concord Rangers on Saturday.

“But he’s in a good place at the moment and looking forward to establishing himself here.”
