LEE Harding insists he will not be putting any “silly pressure” on Braintree Town’s new management team.

The Iron chairman appointed former Concord Rangers manager Danny Cowley as the club’s new boss last week, with his brother Nicky as his right-hand man.

The Cowleys’ main target for next season will be to guide Braintree to the 50-point mark in the Vanarama Conference as quickly as possible.

And Harding said there will be sensible expectations in place for the Iron’s new coaching team, in their first season at the helm.

Harding said: “I think the two lads will deliver.

“We’re not putting any silly pressure on them.

“We’re not saying be top by Christmas, and champions by Easter!

“But we haven’t appointed them because we think we want to make up the numbers.

“We do see progression but we do have work to do behind the scenes to support them. It’s about sensible ambition.

“We want to get to the European Cup Final, like every other club side does.

“But realistically, we have to take small steps and we’re still consolidating at this level.

“The next big thing for us is the new stadium.

“That will give us the facilities and the potential of generating the income to allow us to compete financially with a lot of clubs in this division.

“We have a very good reputation as a club that does things the right way.

“You don’t always get the most money at Braintree but you always get it and that’s the point sometimes.”

Devonshire has taken over at former club Maidenhead United for a second spell.

The 59-year-old, who left Braintree Town last month after four years in charge, was previously boss at York Road between 1996 and 2003.
