Harrop takes charge for the first time at The Hawthorns
8:00am Saturday 12th October 2013 in Non-league football
NEW STANWAY ROVERS boss Angelo Harrop takes charge of his first home game today when Hadleigh United visit The Hawthorns for a Thurlow Nunn Premier match.
The former Colchester United youth-teamer was in the dug-out for last week’s 2-1 defeat at neighbours Brightlingsea Regent.
However, this will be his first home game as manager and his side face tough opposition.
Hadleigh are top of the division with a five-point lead. One of those in a closely-bunched chasing pack are BRIGHTLINGSEA REGENT.
James Webster’s third-placed side, who continued their excellent start to the season by making Essex Senior Cup progress on Tuesday, face a long trip to Godmanchester Rovers.
WIVENHOE TOWN travel to Diss while BRANTHAM ATHLETIC will look to get back on the victory trail at home to Mildenhall.
Tony Hall’s side have not tasted a win in their last four premier division outings.
The last two have ended in defeats, most recently Saturday’s 4-2 setback at Haverhill Rovers.
FC CLACTON head to CRC, desperate to start translating their cup heroics into Thurlow Nunn League points.
The Seasiders have had a week of contrasts, starting with a poor performance in Saturday’s 4-1 home defeat to Newmarket.
But they responded with a hugely-improved display in Tuesday’s Essex Senior Cup tie at home to Brightlingsea, and boss Ray Turner was more buoyed by his side’s performance than their penalty shoot-out elimination.
“We need to take performances like that into the league,” he said. “We need to concentrate and work just as hard to make sure we get some points on the board.
“At the moment we’re very much a cup team and until we string a few victories together, we are going to have that label.”
In division one, high-flying HALSTEAD TOWN are at home to March Town United, while sixth-placed BRAINTREE TOWN RESERVES make the long trip to Fakenham Town, who start the weekend in fourth.
