ESSEX seamer Jamie Porter has been called into the England Lions squad for the closing stages of the Royal London One-Day Series against South Africa A.

Porter replaces Steven Finn following his call into the England squad for the ICC Champions Trophy.

The 24-year-old was selected for England cricket's Pace Programme in Potchefstroom last winter after a second consecutive strong season for Essex in Division Two of the County Championship.

And he has continued to thrive on their return to Division One this season, taking 24 wickets in five matches at an average of 22.

Porter joins 19-year-old Essex team-mate Dan Lawrence in the Lions squad, with both in contention to make their debuts in tomorrow’s day-night match against South Africa A.

The Lions secured the Royal London One-Day Series with a second comfortable win at Northampton on Saturday, in which Lawrence was not involved.

The England selectors will meet next week to choose another Lions squad for a four-day game against South Africa A at the Spitfire Ground, St Lawrence later this month.

And the Lions also have a three-day match against the senior South Africa tourists in Worcester from June 29.
