LEIGH-ON-SEA travel to Oakfield Parkonians looking to follow on from their first win of the campaign last time out, and their captain has called for them to pick up some much-needed momentum.

Leigh’s morale was boosted following their impressive showing against Horndon last time out, in the first of the 50-over matches.

They visit Oakfield Parkonians who have had an inconsistent start to the campaign.

Their last match was abandoned, but Oakfield still sit third in the standings and know a win could lift them into the promotion places.

And captain Dean Waller wants just that for his team.

“Momentum is very important in any sport,” said Waller. “The win against Horndon kick-started our season and we are in good form too, even when we weren’t winning.

“Winning a few games puts you back in the mix and that would be huge. Oakfield Parkonians are relatively new to the division and I don’t know a lot about them but we just need to focus on ourselves.

“We missed a few players last year and I was concerned with that but there has been some good commitment shown so far this year and I hope we can push on and get that result.

“It would be huge for confidence and that can play a real part in what a team wants to achieve.”

Leigh meanwhile are one of a cluster of four teams separated by just two points, with victory potentially lifting them into the top four, despite being winless in their first five matches.

Old Southendian & Southchurch will be looking to bring an unfortunate run of results to an end when they travel to Horndon on the Hill tomorrow.

The Old Boys have lost their last four matches and have dropped to third from bottom in Shepherd Neame Division Two.

They visit Horndon, who themselves have struggled in recent weeks after making a strong start to the season.

Having won the first two, they are now winless in the last four and were beaten by Leigh in their last match.

And Old Boys captain Aaron Lucas says victory is important as they look to hit back.

Wickford have not lost since the opening weekend of the season but face a tough test of their unbeaten credentials against league leaders Belhus.

Belhus have made a flying start to the season and are the team to beat, with Danny and Joe Joyce inspirational in the early throes of the season, and the pair will need to be kept quiet if Wickford stand a good chance of climbing out of mid-table and into the upper echelons of the division.
