HADLEIGH & Thundersley captain Adam Soilleux is hoping to continue the team’s upward surge at winless Woodford Wells tomorrow.

After back-to-back defeats at the start of the season, Soilleux was delighted to see his team bounce back with victory over Loughton last time out.

But the captain is calling on his team to be even more clinical tomorrow, after some catches went down against Loughton.

“After poor results in the first two games it was important to bounce back on Saturday which is exactly what we did,” said Soilleux. “Revs (Rich Revell) and Diggers (Dave Williams) set the tone straight away restricting Loughton to 4-3 from eight overs. Dobbo (Adam Dobson) and I kept the pressure on with a couple more wickets and we had them 70-7 at one point. The tail-enders stuck around a bit and got them up to 116 all out in just under 48 overs.

“Of course I was pleased with that score, but it could have been better had we not dropped four or five catches. Some were hard chances but there were definitely catchable ones that we put down, which cannot happen in closer games.

“In reply we were cruising at 40-1 before (Sam) Handley ran himself out for 15, and we lost a clutter of wickets to leave ourselves 58-5. However Jack Wagstaff and I steadied the ship and saw us home by five wickets with plenty of time to spare. Jack batted well for his 34 not out and I made 24 not out.

“It was a good win to get us back on track and gave us some confidence going into another important game this week at Woodford Wells.”

Billericay have hit the ground running after their promotion from division two last year, and sit unbeaten in second place.

They welcome a fellow promoted side in Fives & Heronians, who sit a place and 10 points behind them in the standings after three matches.

Both drew their last matches and Billericay captain Dave Houghton will want an improvement in the field after several dropped catches went down against Harlow.

Southend-on-Sea & EMT travel to bottom side Loughton, who claimed a morale-boosting draw at Billericay in their last game.

The Seasiders drew with Upminster to the disappointment of captain Joe Robbins and he will be looking to continue Loughton’s winless run come the close of play tomorrow.
