REECE Topley’s call-up to the England squad for their international T20 match against New Zealand is what dreams are made of.

That’s the view of Topley’s Essex County Cricket Club team-mate Graham Napier, who says the seamer fully deserves his recognition.

Colchester and East Essex member Topley has been named in England’s 13-man squad for the Kiwis clash, at Old Trafford.

It is the first time that Topley, who played for Colchester in the Shepherd Neame Essex League earlier this season, has been called up for his country and after seeing his colleague experience injury problems over the last two years, Napier is delighted.

“I’m very pleased for Reece,” said Napier, who was called up for England in the T20 World Cup in 2009 but did not play a game.

“I’m ecstatic for him, because he’s had a very tough time of it over the last 12 months or so with his back injury.

“I’ve watched him physically change his shape over the winter and he’s become more athletic than he was and put the hard work in.

“England have recognised his talent – he’s great with the white ball and very skilful with his bounce and pace.

“Getting a call-up for your country is what we all dream of as young cricketers.

“We all want to play for England at some time in our lives, so when the phone call comes it’s a huge moment.

“I think Reece’s style will suit that environment.

“My hope is that he expresses himself like he’s done for Essex and he wears his heart on his sleeve.”

Prior to his England involvement, Topley will be hoping to help Essex Eagles continue their improved recent form in the T20 Blast competition.

They were due to take on Kent Spitfires last night and host Glamorgan at the County Ground tonight.

Essex then return to County Championship division two action when they travel to play Gloucestershire, with the four-day match getting under way on Sunday.
