Reece Topley has been called up to the England T20 squad for their match against New Zealand next Tuesday.

The Essex and Colchester and East Essex seamer is part of the 13-man squad selected by captain Eoin Morgan, with four other previously uncapped T20 players getting the nod – with James Vince (Hampshire), Mark Wood (Durham), David Willey (Northants) and Sam Billings (Kent) also selected.

Topley, who is yet to represent England and will be hoping to make his international bow, claimed figures of 2-29 in his four overs to help Essex beat Sussex in their latest T20 Blast win last Friday.

He has previously represented the England Lions and England under-19s.

The match will be on Tuesday, June 23 at Emirates Old Trafford, in Manchester, beginning at 6:30pm.

National selector, James Whitaker, said: “This match against New Zealand allows us another opportunity to look at players relatively new to international cricket as we look to build a squad for the World T20 in India this winter.

“The squad is made up of players who have demonstrated their ability in domestic cricket and fully deserve a chance to continue their progress against a very good New Zealand side. We have already seen our limited overs cricket begin to move in the right direction which is exciting but we are all aware that we have plenty more to do if we are going to challenge the very best sides in the world on a regular basis.”

England T20 squad: Eoin Morgan (Middlesex) (Capt), Sam Billings (Kent), Jos Buttler (Lancashire) (WK), Steven Finn (Middlesex), Alex Hales (Nottinghamshire), Adil Rashid (Yorkshire), Joe Root (Yorkshire), Jason Roy (Surrey), Ben Stokes (Durham), Reece Topley (Essex), James Vince (Hampshire), David Willey (Northamptonshire), Mark Wood (Durham)
