Colchester run machine Jack Hebron is on the radar of Nottinghamshire County Cricket Club.

The talented 20-year-old, who hit a magnificent 143 for Colchester and East Essex in their Shepherd Neame Essex League win over Upminster, is being monitored by the Trent Bridge club.

Hebron hit a half century for Notts in their Second XI Championship game against MCC Young Cricketers last week.

And he would have done his chances of further recognition no harm at all, following his superb innings at Castle Park.

Hebron led Colchester to their first Shepherd Neame Essex League win of the season as they enjoyed a 112-run victory over bottom club Upminster, at a sun-filled Castle Park.

Colchester scored 326 for eight, in their allotted 50 overs.

And Hebron claimed 3-58 with the ball to help dismiss the visitors for 214 and enable his side get off the mark in the First XI premier division.

Colchester captain Jake Foley said: “I’ve watched Jack score lots of hundreds but I think his innings against Upminster was one of the best I’ve ever seen.

“It was different class and he looked so comfortable at the crease. He’s not the biggest of lads but for his size, he hits the ball so cleanly.

“It didn’t look like he was going to get out and spent a lot of time out in the middle but when I asked him if he want to bowl he stepped up and did a good job.

“It was a good all-round performance by the whole team and great to get off the mark.

“Everything seemed to fall into place and hopefully we can go on from here and get some more wins on the board.”

After surprisingly being put into bat, Colchester’s batsmen made hay in the sunshine.

Hebron and Foley put on a 144-run partnership for the fourth wicket, as the hosts assembled a big total.

“It’s a good batting wicket at Castle Park and it was good to bat first, on a nice day,” said Foley.

“We actually lost the toss but they put us in which we were a little bemused by, as we had wanted to bat first.

“Jack was batting throughout the innings and as soon as I got in, we had a bit of fun and it was good to get some runs.

“We needed someone in our top five to bat all of the way and I was able to support him.

“When you put 300-plus on the board you really put yourself in the driving seat and the bowlers feel confident.”

Upminster made a solid start but once Ollie Bocking (2-39) had removed opener Shahbaz Butt (22), wickets regularly tumbled.

Darren Eckford (2-39) and Ben Allison (2-62) both claimed two wickets apiece, as Colchester wrapped up a convincing win.

Colchester II (231-9) lost to Upminster II (287-8) by 56 runs, in the Second XI premier division.

Colchester’s third team have been penalised five points in Third XI division two following a third concession of the season, after their scheduled game against Walthamstow was cancelled.
