TOM Ullyott wants his Colchester and East Essex players to assume the role of party poopers at Wanstead and Snaresbrook tomorrow.

The hosts will be in celebration mood on the final day of the season at Overton Drive, having already clinched the Shepherd Neame Essex League premier division title.

Colchester look destined for a mid-table finish, following an inconsistent spell of late.

But the Castle Park side, who beat Wanstead at home earlier in the season, will be going all out to finish the campaign on a high.

Ullyott said: “We’ll give a few of the younger guys a try and hopefully, we can go there and win.

"It'll be nice to do that against the champions - we beat them earlier in the season and it would be good to get a double over them.

"It got a bit spicy at the end of that game and I'm sure there’ll be a few personal battles that will be reignited.”

Young duo Caspar Everett and Jack Crace have both been named in the Colchester squad as have Darren Eckford and Joe Austin, despite injury concerns.

However, Julian Russell and Greg Stephens are both unavailable.

Meanwhile, Ullyott admits Colchester need to begin their player recruitment for next year, with the current season drawing to a close.

Ullyott said: “We have a young squad and hopefully, we can strengthen it in the winter and give it a bit more of a backbone.

“We certainly need to be thinking now about the squad for next season and do some recruiting.

“If you leave it until December time, everyone else already has their plan in place by then.

“We need to move on things as soon as we can.”

Colchester’s third team suffered relegation from third XI division one this season and Ullyott admits that is not ideal.

He added: “We want to attract young players and depending on their ability, they’ll more than likely start in the third XI.

“So the better the standard, the more chance we have of eventually breeding players who can move up to the first XI.

“We want players to play in the highest division possible so it’s disappointing but unfortunately, relegation is part and parcel of club cricket.”
