GERAINT Williams conceded his side have not been good enough to stay in the Coca-Cola Championship, after their 3-3 draw at Scunthorpe United However, the U's boss is adamant their relegation has nothing to do with any lack of effort or commitment.

Colchester completed their campaign by sharing the spoils with the Iron, who will also play in League One next season.

It looked like they might finish on a winning note, after Scott Vernon and Kevin McLeod - with his second goal of the game - put them in control in the opening minutes of the second half at Glanford Park.

However, Paul Hayes' brace secured a point for Scunthorpe.

Williams (pictured) said: "We wanted to make sure we finished the season properly.

"We're very proud men and we're very hurt that we've been relegated. We didn't want to go out with a whimper and that showed early in the second half.

"I didn't think the season could end any other way - our season's come down to individual errors and that was the only way it was ever going to end.

"We haven't finished where we are because of a lack of effort - it's because we haven't been good enough."

Wrong again Willaims there has been a huge lack of effort this season, However you are right on one thing we haven't been good enough
The side (not TEAM) have not worked well together. A team would work hard for each other and play hard for each other, to many players played as poor individuals. get rid of poor idividuals and get a set of players that know there is no I in TEAM!!!!!

..... ah so this why the players refer to Williams as The Gaffer ! Is there no end to the inane dribble that comes out of his mouth?
