McLeod's future is uncertain

KEVIN McLeod has admitted he is unsure whether he will be a Colchester United player next season.

The winger capped his first start for two months with a brace in the U's 3-3 draw with Scunthorpe United on the final day of the Coca-Cola Championship season.

McLeod was in fine form at Glanford Park but is facing a nervous wait to learn if he is part of manager Geraint Williams' plans for next season.

Colchester have already released four players, with Kevin Watson, Luke Guttridge, Tom Webb and Tom Devaux all told they are surplus to requirements.

And Williams is set to meet with the rest of his players this week, before they head into the summer break.

McLeod told the Gazette: "I don't know what will happen next in my career.

"I'm just here to play football and I don't get involved in things like that - I'll leave that to the gaffer.

"But over the summer I will keep myself as fit as possible and carry that on for another nine months - whether I'm at Colchester or anywhere else."

Williams was pleased with McLeod's contribution at Glanford Park.

He said: "Kevin has all the ability in the world and it's how to get the best out of him for 90 minutes and all season.

"He seems to have little spells where he does ever so well but the key is to get that consistency out of Kevin week in, week out."

Having started Colchester's opening three matches, McLeod has been in and out of the starting line-up and has been hindered more often than not by injury.

The 27-year-old former Everton trainee admitted he will not be sorry to see the back of a disappointing campaign.

"I've had a frustrating time over the last couple of weeks because I haven't been playing," he said.

"I had to keep my head down and I was just happy to be back out there again - and especially to score a couple of goals.

"It's been a frustrating season. We've got a good set of lads and we showed against Scunthorpe that we can get the ball down and play football.

"We've let ourselves down defensively over the season but we have to pick ourselves up now and push for promotion from League One.

Too late Kev. There is no good performing in the last game of the season. My nan could score twice at Scunthorpe. I wish you well but next season will be really tough and we need players who are consistently good not consistently bad.

McClown has failed to pull the wool over the Colchester fans even with scoring two on Saturday. The bigest problem is that Willaims may just fall for it!!!! Time to go go McClown

Seems the way to get The Lardy One to move his butt about the field is just to give him a one-game renewable contract. Joking aside, too little too late in my book, give him his cards.

Good players perform consistently well over the season, occasionally (and by that I don't mean every other week Williams) they may have a bad day but thats all.

One good performance does not suddenly make McLeod a good player. I for one am not fooled, though I fear GW will be.
