Impressive U's record back-to-back home wins

Colchester United secured their fourth league win in five matches under new boss Joe Dunne with a 2-0 victory over Carlisle United this afternoon.

Craig Eastmond tapped in Sanchez Watt's low cross in the 25th minute to give the U's the lead, after some smart passing.

And Jabo Ibehre doubled Colchester's advantage six minutes later when he fired home first-time from Watt's low cross.

Ibehre, Anthony Wordsworth and Marcus Bean were all denied by Carlisle goalkeeper Mark Gillespie before half-time, as the U's turned on the style.

Carlisle improved in the second half and had the better of the play and the chances, with Mike Edwards, Kallum Higginbotham and James Berrett all missing free headers.

But Colchester claimed victory and the only real downside to the afternoon for them was losing both Watt and right-back Brian Wilson to injuries.

Another great game at WHCS, been really impressed with the football, and you could see smiles around the whole stadium, apart from Carlisle. Especially in the first half where the football was outstanding at times with some first class attacking/one touch football. Led by Watt, Jabo, Eastmond and Bean. Personally I feel Watt was the best player on the pitch today, but well done Jabo for getting MOTM. A lot of energy shown now on the pitch, and glad to see John White back.

No doubt one of the best first half performances I have seen from Col U in the past years. The whole team played very well, Rose is becoming a full back that we have always wanted to see, and the loanee's were superb. Especially Sanchez Watt who is showing everyone that league 1 is too easy for him please Joe extend their contracts and we could look like a play off position. Up the U's

We have come a long way in a few weeks, but reading Joe Dunne,s after match comments on the Ipswich star website,he knows we were lucky today at times regards the chances Carlisle frittered away. I've read both the Colchester and Carlisle web site reports and being honest the Carlisle one tells the real truth regards the game. To me it was a cracking game of football with both teams producing some good stuff. The last fifteen minutes of the first half was breathtaking stuff by the U's and surely some of the best football seen at the Community Staduim. At least we now have the abilty to take a lead and protect it. Joe Dunne admitted in the interview after the game that we did not cut out at least three balls across the face of goal, in which he was not happy with.When playing the likes of Shef Utd players like Dave Kitson will not miss. I still have my reservations on the goalkeeper regards high crosses and Mark not being the tallest guy did flap and miss a couple of crosses today, but also give him credit made some good saves.It's still early days as yet and we must expext a few defeats along the way, but who cares if we see football and the effort given like that every week. All credit to Carlisle who at times themselves played some good one two football and made it a credit to watch and an enjoyable day. .

Great U's result and a great game, but I agree with Crazy - so let's not ignore Carlisle's contribution. This game had 33 shots (the most in Division One) with 15 for the U's and 18 for the Cumbrians, with 8 and 3 respectively on target (source BBC). Had the Carlisle forwards bought their compasses (as well as shooting boots), they could have won, but the U's were so much more decisive and on balance deserved the victory.

A combined 33 is a shot every three minutes. This stuff should bring the fans back, but where are they? Still only 3,335. But given Ipswich's plight, and a brilliant FA Cup draw (surely common sense says play it at WHCS?) surely things must improve?

Crazy is spot on; we have come a long way in jut a few weeks. Things are much improved and the quality of football much better but JD is realistic in his comments. He knows we still have issues in defence and he knows what they are and intends to deal with them. So very positive progress. Two banana skin away trips to come followed by a tricky non league FA Cup Tie away. I think these next 3 games will shape our destiny for the season. 4 points from 6 say and getting through the cup-tie then we would really be on the move.
