Opening-day point pleases U's boss Ward

John Ward felt his Colchester United team produced a strong performance in securing a 0-0 draw at Preston North End.

The U’s recovered from their Capital One Cup first round exit at the hands of Yeovil Town last week with a much-improved performance, on the opening day of the League One season.

Mark Cousins was the busier of the two goalkeepers but the U’s worked hard for their point at Deepdale.

Ward said: “It was a very strong performance from my team.

“I got a bit bored watching my team play at Yeovil.

“There were too many passes but I think we were a bit more incisive.

“We’re adjustable as a group of people and it was a better performance.”
