Clinton Morrison scored his first goal in a Colchester United shirt, but Local bragging rights headed over the county border as Ipswich Town beat Colchester United 2-1 in their pre-season friendly encounter at the Weston Homes Community Stadium.
The Suffolk visitors impressed before the break and took a 2-0 lead into half-time thanks to two strikes by Michael Chopra.
It was no more than they deserved, but the second half was a much quieter affair for the home side.
Morrison gave the crowd of 1,376 something to cheer with a goal soon after the restart.
It was a much more composed second period for the U's, but there were no further goals as Town ended on top.
Colchester now head to Bishop's Stortford for their final pre-season game ahead of their trip to Yeovil Town in the Capital One Cup on Tuesday.
