Drey Wright has left Colchester United to sign for St Johnstone, on a two-year deal.

The 23-year-old will join the Scottish Premiership club on a two-year deal in July, after turning down a new deal at the U's.

Wright had been offered a new contract at Colchester last August, along with four other players.

However, he opted not to sign the deal and speaking about his future after the U's 1-0 home defeat against Yeovil Town in March, said any agreement had to be right for everyone.

He said: “I had a talk with the staff earlier in the week about those kind of things and hopefully, they should sort themselves out in the near future.

“It has to be right for both parties but I’m hoping I can be part of things at Colchester, next season.”

John Ward gave Wright his first-team debut for Colchester at the age of 17, in 2012.

The versatile attacker has made 148 appearances for John McGreal's side in all competitions, scoring nine goals.

Wright made 43 league appearances in the 2017-18 campaign, netting three times.

Wright follows Doug Loft, Craig Slater, Denny Johnstone and Tommy O'Sullivan in leaving Colchester following the completion of the 2017-18 season with goalkeeper Sam Walker also set for pastures new, this summer.
