Colchester United head coach John McGreal says the outcome of the contract talks they hold with their existing players will influence their transfer window activity.

McGreal has revealed the club have “offers on the table” for potential new signings and have been linked with a move for Cheltenham Town midfielder Harry Pell.

But the U’s boss but says much will depend on who stays and goes, in the coming weeks.

A host of first-team players are set to see their current deals run out this summer, including Sam Walker, Brennan Dickenson, Tom Lapslie and club captain, Luke Prosser.

McGreal said: “A lot will depend on the decisions on our existing players, before we move forward.

“But we still have a couple of games left to see where we are and there are still futures to be played for.

“There are still decisions to be made on one or two of the boys which we’ll come to at the end of the season.

“We have to try and keep hold of what we’ve got and we know that it’s a tough business, in this division alone.

“We’re looking for players to improve the squad.

“There’s offers on the table for players so we’ll have to wait and see.

“We’re in a competitive division, not only football-wise but also in terms of money, too.”
