Luke Prosser has revealed he is in discussions to extend his stay at Colchester United.

The U’s club captain will see his existing deal at the Weston Homes Community Stadium expire this summer but says he is hoping to sign a new contract to stay with John McGreal’s side.

Prosser said: “We’re in talks at the moment.

“I’ve really enjoyed my time here when I’ve been fit – I’ve been really disappointed with the injury but that’s part and parcel of the game.

“I still feel that I have a lot to offer football in general.

“I’m 30 years old next month and for a centre-half, you’re sort of coming into your prime then and feel like you have another three or four years.

“I’m a fit lad so we’ll see what happens.

“I’m local-ish and I had the honour of being made club captain so hopefully something can get sorted soon.”

Prosser insists Colchester want to finish their home campaign on a winning note when they host Swindon Town tomorrow.

Both clubs have missed out on a League Two play-off spot this season but the defender insists there is still plenty to play for.

"Promotion was our aim at the start of the season so it’s extremely disappointing but you still want to go out and play with a bit of pride,” said the former Southend United centre-back.

“People are playing for contracts and their futures, so there’s still a lot for us to play for.

“There’s two games left to play and six points up for grabs, so we want to finish as high as possible.

“Both teams will want to finish the season strongly, so it should be a good game. We want to finish with two wins and put a mark down for next season.”
