Colchester United head coach John McGreal believes League Two will be an even stronger division, next season.

The line-up for the 2017-18 campaign was confirmed when Blackpool beat Exeter City 2-1 in the League Two play-off final at Wembley, to win promotion back to the third tier at the first time of asking.

The Tangerines have joined Portsmouth, Plymouth Argyle and Doncaster Rovers in winning promotion and will be replaced by Chesterfield, Coventry City, Port Vale and Swindon Town who have come down from League One.

Lincoln City and Football League newcomers Forest Green Rovers were promoted from the National League, replacing relegated sides Hartlepool United and Leyton Orient in the division.

McGreal said: “There are some big clubs coming into League Two, for next season.

“You’ve got Lincoln coming up from the National League and the likes of Coventry City coming down from League One.

“There are big clubs coming in from big directions so it’s going to make the league stronger again so we’re looking forward to it.”

McGreal wants Colchester’s fortunes away from home to improve, next season.

While the U’s won 14 of their league games at the Community Stadium, they managed just five victories on the road.

“You want to win your home games,” added the U’s boss.

“If you do that and also take a point away from home, that’s two points per game and you’re promoted.

“We have to maintain our home form and we also know that we have to improve away from home.”
