Colchester United head coach John McGreal says his players have a great chance of achieving their target of reaching the League Two play-offs following their big win over Stevenage.

The U's thrashed Boro 4-0 at the Weston Homes Community Stadium to draw to within two points of the top seven with five games remaining, following a 13th home win of the season.

McGreal said: "I think we deserve to be where we are and we keep putting in the results, especially at home.

“I think our home supporters are getting full value with the performances we’re putting in.

“We’ve got something to play for and we’ve kept ourselves in it.

“With the injuries we’ve had and what’s go on through the season, the boys have done us proud and we have a great chance to get to Wembley.”

Colchester had raced into a four-goal lead by half-time, thanks to goals from Brennan Dickenson, Chris Porter and own goals from Stevenage pair Josh McQuoid and Charlie Lee.

“I thought the lads were fantastic," added McGreal.

“We did a lot of homework on Stevenage, especially after losing at Notts County.

“I felt as though we needed to come back and put in a performance.

“Stevenage have been terrific with some of the results and performances that they’ve been putting together and we knew it was going to be a tough game.

“We needed to start well and that gave us the platform to go on.

“We’ve got to make the most out of home displays and we’ve been waiting for these games to come around."
