Matt Briggs is set to continue his injury comeback as Colchester’s under-23s take on Ipswich Town at Playford Road this afternoon (kick-off 1pm).

Left-back Briggs is set to get more game time under his belt in the Professional Development League Two match, following his hip injury.

The former Millwall and Fulham defender enjoyed his first competitive action of the season last week when he featured in Colchester's Essex Senior Cup defeat at East Thurrock United.

Colchester will also field the likes of Femi Akinwande and Louis Dunne, along with two trialists.

Wayne Brown's side currently lie two points behind Ipswich in the table in seventh place and will be hoping to start 2017 on a winning note.

The two sides played out a 2-2 draw when they last met, last October.
