BRENNAN Dickenson says the impressive start he has made at new club Colchester United is the best he has made in his career.

The U’s winger has been shortlisted for the Sky Bet League Two player of the month award for August, after making an instant impact at the Weston Homes Community Stadium.

Dickenson has scored three times in five league appearances for Colchester, following his summer switch from League One outfit Gillingham.

The 23-year-old will find out tomorrow whether or not he has scooped the award, with Doncaster Rovers’ James Coppinger, Alex Kiwomya of Crewe Alexandra and Morecambe keeper Barry Roche also nominated.

Dickenson told the Daily Gazette: “It’s my first award nomination and it would be great to win but credit to the other players who have been nominated too, because they’ve also done well.

“It’s the best start that I’ve made at a club, to score three goals in five league games.

“As an individual, the nomination shows how well I’ve started but it’s testament to how well the team has done and I couldn’t have received the nomination without them.

“We have a really positive vibe throughout the squad and the club and everyone’s made it very easy for me to settle in and get to know everyone.

“We already have a good understanding of how everyone plays and it’s just clicked.

“Pre-season has been a massive part of that, especially for the new players coming in because it helps everything gel.”

Dickenson and his Colchester team-mates will be looking to bounce back immediately from their defeat against Exeter City when they host Blackpool, this weekend.

The U’s 3-2 reverse to the Grecians was their first home defeat of the season and the winger says they are looking to put things right.

Dickenson said: “The Exeter game was disappointing - it was one of those games when things didn’t quite come off for us but we still have positives to take from it.

“We’re at home again on Saturday against Blackpool and we’ll come back fighting.

“The manager has been very positive all week and we’re looking forward to coming out all guns blazing and fight for the three points.”

Colchester head coach John McGreal has been nominated for the League Two Manager of the Month award for August and will find out if he has won tomorrow.
