New Colchester United boss John McGreal is set for talks with the club's players today, as he begins to shape his squad for next season.

The newly-appointed first-team coach, along with director of football Tony Humes, will sit down for an end-of-season debrief and meetings with the existing U's squad, with some set to learn whether or not they have a future with the club.

A number of players are out of contract this summer, with Joe Edwards, Tom Eastman, Marvin Sordell and Nicky Shorey among the players who are set to see their current deals expire.

Alex Gilbey is also out of contract and is highly likely to leave Colchester this summer, to play in a higher division.

McGreal will also hold talks with Colchester's contracted players, with the likes of George Moncur and Owen Garvan having reportedly attracted interest from admiring clubs in the aftermath of the U's relegation to League Two.

U's assistant manager Steve Ball said: “There are still on-going discussions on players staying or going but John will have the final say on that with Tony (Humes), so that will take place in the coming days."

Colchester's League One campaign finished with a 2-1 home defeat against Rochdale yesterday.
