Kevin keen has left his position as Colchester United manager with immediate effect today.

The news comes just three days after the U's relegation from League One was confirmed.

A club statement issued this afternoon said: "After a meeting with the owner, Robbie Cowling, over the future direction of the club, Kevin Keen has decided to leave Colchester United with immediate effect.

"Kevin has worked tirelessly to try and turn around the fortunes of the club this season.

"We wish Kevin all the best in his future career. "David Wright has agreed to take the team for the remaining two games of the current season."

Keen's final game in charge was the 3-0 defeat by Burton Albion that confirmed the U's relegation to League Two last weekend.

The 49-year-old became Colchester's manager in December following the departure of Tony Humes and was given the task of retaining the club's League One status.

However, just five wins and seven draws from his 24 games in charge haven't been enough to keep the U's up.

Wright will now take charge for the club's final two games in League One - against Barnsley and Rochdale. More news to follow as this story continues to break.
