George Moncur is hoping to putt his pal and golf partner Harry Kane in his place tomorrow - by helping to tee up a fifth-round FA Cup spot for Colchester United.

U’s midfielder Moncur and England hot-shot Kane have been good friends since their days as youngsters in the Tottenham Hotspur academy.

The pair regularly hit the golf course together but this weekend could compete on the football pitch, when Colchester host Spurs in their sold-out fourth-round clash.

Moncur says he regularly gets the better of Kane at golf - and is hoping he can replicate that winning form at a sold-out Weston Homes Community Stadium this weekend.

He told the Daily Gazette: “We’ll have a bit of banter when we’re on the golf course and hopefully I can get in his head a bit on Saturday - we’ll see what happens.

“I always do him at golf - he does me at finishing but I do him at golf.

“Harry’s a good lad - he’s a quality player playing really well at the top level and hopefully that’s something I can do one day.

“He’s really nice boy, so level-headed – if he’s doing well or not so well, he’s the same person so that’s really good.

“He’s class - I was with him at Tottenham when I was a young lad but we also live quite near each other.

“There was a lot of pressure on him at the start of the season when he wasn’t scoring as much.

“But that’s the sort of person that he is, as he’s bounced right back and he’s flying again now.

“I texted him in the week and we said it will be a good game - as we’re mates, we’ll probably swap shirts at the end.

“When we talk, we’re not really on football when we’re away from it.

“Harry never blows his own trumpet and that’s really nice to see, because he’s such a nice guy.”

Moncur was an academy player at Spurs before moving on to West Ham United, while his father John was at White Hart Lane for eight years prior to joining Swindon Town.

“My dad watches most of my games and will tell me what I’m doing afterwards but he doesn’t say anything before other than just to go out and do what I can do,” said the U’s midfielder.

“He doesn’t go through the games, he says just to make sure your attitude is bang on.”

Moncur believes Colchester are capable of pulling off a huge shock and beating Spurs, who currently lie fourth in the Premier League table.

The 22-year-old added: “I like to play in big games and this is another big one - hopefully I can perform again.

“This could be big for our season as a result against a massive team can do anything, even a draw – we’ll take either.

“But it’s going to be a great game whatever happens.

“There has been a liveliness around everyone.

“We’re playing Premier League opposition and need to be sharp and short so I’m sure everyone will be ready for it come Saturday.

“We have some really good players in our team and everyone will be up for the game so I’m sure that everyone will want to show what they can do.

“We just need to go out there and show everyone what we can do as a team.”
