Macauley Bonne bagged the winner as Colchester United’s under-21s ran out 2-1 winners at Brentford, in Professional Development League Two.

Bonne struck the U’s winning goal in the second half, as John McGreal’s side came from behind to win at the Bees’ Jersey Road training ground.

Jan Holldack smashed Brentford ahead midway through the first half, after James Ferry had broken up play well in midfield.

But Colchester were back on level terms just before half-time through defender Frankie Kent, who rose highest to power home Dion Sembie-Ferris’s cross.

And Bonne grabbed the U’s winner when his deflected effort wrong-footed Brentford keeper Nik Tzanev and flew into the corner of the net.

The likes of Kane Vincent-Young, Frankie Kent and Drey Wright also featured for Colchester against the Bees.
