Jamie Jones says he is happy to extend his loan spell at Colchester United until the end of the season.

The Preston North End goalkeeper’s three-month stint at the U’s is due to come to an end next month.

But Jones has revealed he is more than open to extending his stint at the Weston Homes Community Stadium, if both clubs agree.

And the 26-year-old says working with Colchester goalkeeper coach Ademola Bankole is a big factor in his willingness to commit.

Jones said: “I’m more than happy enough to be here until the end of the season.

“I want to stay here and push up the league and get to 52 points and then kick on from there.

“It’s not really for me to sort out - it’s between the two clubs but I’ve been given the heads up to say if I’m happy or not and of course, I am.

“I’m enjoying it here and I’ve got a great relationship with the goalie coach George (Ademola Bankole) and the gaffer as well, along with the players.

“If you haven’t got a smile on your face, then George will put a smile on you!

“He’s brilliant - he’s very bubbly.

“When we’re out on the training ground we get things done - that’s when we’re serious and we’ve got our training heads on, if you like.

“Since coming here, I worked a lot harder than the last 14 or 15 months I had at Preston.

“It’s a different style of training but it’s one that I benefit from and I like and it’s working for me.

“I feel like I’ve learnt something since I’ve been here - you’re always learning from different coaches and taking new things in.”

Jones will be in Colchester’s starting line-up at Millwall at the New Den tomorrow, where they will be aiming to secure a first win in four league matches.

“It’s a daunting place to go to but we just have to embrace it and do the best we can,” added Jones.

“Millwall can be a noisy crowd and we’ll be looking to go there and keep them quiet.

“A few weeks ago, we were scoring a lot of goals in the first 15 minutes.

“If we can do that again on Saturday, I’m sure it’ll keep them quiet.”
