Colchester United winger Drey Wright could be allowed out on loan, in a bid to regain his fitness.

U’s boss Tony Humes has had a discussion with the player about the possibility of him getting matches under his belt elsewhere.

Wright, getting back to full fitness, has been sidelined for the best part of two years with knee injuries that have required surgery.

“A loan is something we’ve discussed but we’ve got to be careful,” said Humes.

“While we’ve got a few injuries, we can’t let all our players out on loan.

“We’ve got to be looking at Drey Wright stepping up to the plate and hopefully showing a little bit more than he is at the minute.

“We want him to get back where he was, to being that exciting player that he was when he first came through - being a bit more dynamic and playing with more confidence.

“But we’ve got to remember that he’s missed two years and it’s going to take time to get back where he was.

“There’s a little bit of impatience on our behalf but it’s just a case of wanting him to get back where he was.

“While we are wanting to see more from him, we’ve also got to be patient and recognise that he’s missed a huge chunk of football.”
