Colchester United boss Tony Humes believes his side have become a more potent force after they beat Bradford City 2-0 to record a fourth successive win.

First-half goals from Callum Harriott and Marvin Sordell lifted the U's up to eighth in League One and maintained their fine winning run.

Humes said: "We've become a little more clinical - earlier in the season, we were making chances but not taking them.

"But if you score that first goal, it makes a big difference.

“It was a good solid team performance and a second clean sheet of the season got us through it.

“There were a lot of good individual performances but I thought that the team collectively was very, very good.

“Bradford probably had more possession than us but we hurt them more going forward.

"If we keep performing like that and getting balls into good areas, we have the quality to score goals."

Sordell grabbed his second goal for the U's - and his first at the Weston Homes Community Stadium - since signing for the club earlier this month.

“The quality of the players who have come in is there for all to see," said Humes.

“Some of the things that Marvin does just makes you smile watching him.

“He’s a quality player - we were delighted when we got him but he’s getting better and better.

“He’s getting his sharpness and fitness and the confidence of scoring again (against Bradford) will do him the world of good."
