Colchester United maintained their winning form after beating Bradford City 2-0 at the Weston Homes Community Stadium.

Goals from Callum Harriott and Marvin Sordell helped the U's claim a fourth straight win, at the Weston Homes Community Stadium.

Colchester almost fell behind in the sixth minute when James Hanson missed a gilt-edged chance at the far post after keeper Jamie Jones had parried Billy Knott’s cross-shot into his path.

But the U’s took the lead a minute later when winger Callum Harriott picked up possession in the area and drove in a low shot which squirmed under former Liverpool goalkeeper Brad Jones’ body and in.

And Colchester doubled their lead just after the half hour through Marvin Sordell, who finished clinically after the impressive Owen Garvan had advanced towards goal and provided a deft pass into the striker’s path.

Sordell almost netted a second on the stroke of half-time when his nonchalant effort from just inside the Bradford half dipped just over after he had spotted Jones off his line, as the U’s went in at the break with a two-goal cushion.

Tony McMahon went close with a free-kick for the visitors just after the hour mark but Sordell came close to scoring his second of the game with 20 minutes remaining when his low shot was pushed around his near post by keeper Jones.

But Colchester were worth winners and were able to secure yet another win.
