Tony Humes believes Colchester United are maturing as a team after they won 2-1 at Swindon Town to clock up a third successive victory this afternoon.

Goals from George Moncur and Callum Harriott in the first half at the County Ground were enough to secure the in-form U's another win in League One and left them three points off the play-off places.

Colchester were able to register three straight wins for the first time in nearly three years and boss Humes feels they are growing as a side.

Humes said: “We got in the lead at half-time and we’ve had to battle to see the game out, similarly to last week.

“I think it shows that we’re managing things better and that we’re maturing.

“Some of the football we played in the first half was terrific.

“Had we taken all of our chances, I think we could have been out of the sight possibly in the first half.

“That’s the game – you have to score the goals and you have to defend to keep them out and I thought that to a man, they were superb defensively.

“We’re trying to play football and play the game in an expansive way that gets us goals and gets us results.

“There are still times from that where we’re a little bit open but we have to continue that way if we’re going to get success.”
