Callum Harriott scored Colchester United's winner for the second successive game as the U's chalked up three straight league victories for the first time in nearly three years after beating Swindon Town.

Tony Humes' side won 2-1 at the County Ground to maintain their fine recent form in League One.

George Moncur gave Colchester a dream start, side-footing home from Matt Briggs’ pass in the third minute for his fifth goal in as many games.

Wes Thomas blasted over from Nicky Ajose’s pass soon after while at the other end, Swindon keeper Tyrell Belford saved Moncur’s fierce effort at his near post.

The Robins equalised in the 22nd minute through Thomas, who finished emphatically from close range after Jordan Turnbull had flicked on Fabien Robert’s corner.

Colchester keeper Jamie Jones then superbly palmed Henrik Ojamaa’s close-range effort over the bar on the half hour.

But Joe Edwards’ shot flashed inches over for the visitors and Colchester restored their lead three minutes before half-time.

Harriott slotted emphatically past Belford for his second goal in as many games, after Marvin Sordell had intelligently helped on Owen Garvan’s pass.

The second half had less in the way of goalmouth incident, although Jordan Turnbull's header was well dealt with by U's keeper Jones, on the hour mark.

Swindon switched to a more attacking formation in the second half but Colchester continued to look dangerous on the break, thanks to the pace of Harriott and Gavin Massey.

And Massey was unlucky not to make it 3-1 when Belford tipped his effort onto the bar and over for a corner, after a rapid Colchester break following a Swindon corner.

It was Swindon's turn to hit the woodwork soon after when Ajose's far post effort came back off a post, following substitute Jeremy Balmy's teasing low cross.

Darren Ambrose and Alex Gilbey were both sent on for Colchester as the clock ticked down and Tosin Olufemi had to head Raphael Branco's header off the line in the closing stages.

But the U's held out for a third straight win, to make it ten points from a possible 12.
