Gavin Massey believes Colchester United’s new-look attack has the potential to strike fear into opposition defences in League One.

Massey formed one part of the U’s three-pronged attack that terrorised the Chesterfield defence throughout the 3-3 draw at the Proact Stadium.

The 22-year-old capped a fine individual display with his first goal of the season and fellow winger Callum Harriott provided three assists and hit the woodwork, while new striker Marvin Sordell looked lively on his Colchester debut.

Massey and Sordell have been reunited, following their time together at Watford’s academy.

And with Harriott making a big impact since joining the U’s on loan from Charlton Athletic last month and the likes of George Moncur and Alex Gilbey adding potency from midfield, Massey believes Colchester can frighten defenders.

Massey said: “It’s something positive to look forward to and we’re a handful as an attacking force.

“We have the players and the ability to tear teams apart in this league.

“I think everyone knows that and other teams know that.

“We have strength in depth in those areas and it’s something to look forward to in the future.

“It was Marv’s first game in a while and when he’s been training for a while he’ll get up to match sharpness and he’ll be there diving in and getting those little tap-ins.”
