COLCHESTER United boss Tony Humes felt there were positives to take from this afternoon’s pre-season friendly against Leyton Orient.

The U’s lost 3-0, following two goals from Paul McCallum before a late third from substitute Scott Kashket.

Humes said the match was a useful run-out for his side, helping continue their preparations for the League One season.

However, he also admitted there were areas to improve on.

“It was a good pre-season work-out and it was good for another couple of players – George Moncur and Frankie Kent – to get 90 minutes,” said the U’s boss.

“Bit by bit we’re building up to where we want to get and there were a lot of good things to come out of it.

“Orient gave us problems and were a bit sharper than us.

“I don’t think we made too many opportunities, so need to be a bit more creative.

“But overall, it’s a pre-season game and another opportunity to learn more about where we need to get to.

“Everyone got something from the game and we’re building up to August 8. That’s what it’s about.”
