Chris Porter will lead Colchester United this season after being named as the club's new captain.
The experienced striker is the U's new skipper, with midfielder Alex Gilbey announced as vice-captain.
Colchester boss Tony Humes said: "We've asked Chris to take on various responsibilities within the dressing room and he's done that very well.
"He's a very good pro and the younger players look up to him so he will have the captaincy.
"He worked very well with David Fox when he was captain last season.
"We looked at that and said "carry it on".
Gilbey will be vice-captain, having had a taste of skippering the U's last season.
Humes added: "Alex has taken the responsibility of being captain last season on a number of occasions and we want him to grow up and become a more responsible player on the field.
"He has those leadership skills and he has experience around him like Joe Edwards and George Elokobi.
"The more we can have that leadership, the stronger we'll be."
