Colchester United boss Tony Humes admits their attempts to bring Jacob Murphy back for a second loan spell lie in Norwich City’s hands.

The U’s have confirmed their interest in bringing the winger back to the Weston Homes Community Stadium, following his successful loan spell last season.

Murphy shone during his two-month spell with Colchester, scoring four times in 11 appearances to help them stay in League One.

The skilful 20-year-old is currently gearing up for the new season with his parent club Norwich, who are preparing for life in the Premier League.

Humes is keen for Murphy to return but believes the Canaries may be looking to loan Murphy to a Championship side, scuppering the chances of him returning to the U’s for a second loan spell.

Humes said: “We’ve discussed Jacob because he did well for us, last season.

“But Norwich City are his parent club and they will have a big say on what Jacob does.

“They may want him to test himself at a higher level and he’s played in the Championship for Blackpool.

“It’s very much down to Norwich as to what happens with Jacob but we would be interested in him, because he did well for us.”
