Sean Clohessy has left Colchester United after his contract was terminated.

The attacking right-back, who joined the U's from Scottish Premier League side Kilmarnock last summer, played 37 games for the club and skippered them for a number of games.

But he fell out of favour with boss Tony Humes at the end of February following his reaction to being substituted in their 2-0 defeat at Doncaster Rovers.

It proved to be Clohessy's final game for the U's and he is now looking for a new club, despite having a year remaining on the two-year deal he signed last summer.

Humes told the U's website: "Sean had another year left on his contract but it was in everyone's interests that it was terminated, allowing Sean to find another club over the summer."

Meanwhile, young striker Dominic Smith has also been released by Colchester.

Smith, who joined the U's from Crewe Alexandra last year, made his senior debut as a substitute for the U's in Humes' first match in charge at Walsall, last September.

But he did not feature after that and will now be given the chance to look for another club.

Smith tweeted on Sunday: My time is now over at Colchester like to thank all players and staff for a great year! It was a great experience! All the best next year!"
