New signing Jacob Murphy insists he is happy to embrace the challenge of trying to keep Colchester United in League One.

The skilful winger, who has arrived on loan from Norwich City until the end of the season, says he had no qualms about joining the U’s despite their lowly league position.

Murphy has made a big impact since joining Colchester last week and scored one goal and made another in their 2-0 win over Yeovil Town, last night.

Murphy said: “I didn’t think about the league position when I joined.

“I saw it more as a great challenge for me to see what I can bring to the team.

“If you’re going into a situation thinking it’s going to be tough, there’s no point in being there.

“You want to do your best as a player and I think we’re more than capable of getting out of the situation we’re in.

“There’s been no-one who’s going to sit and sulk about the situation and we have each other’s backs.

Murphy’s switch to Colchester is his third loan move of the season, following earlier spells at Blackpool and Scunthorpe United.

His spell with the Tangerines was cut short last December, after the Norwich youngster posted a message on social media which appeared to mock their plight in the Championship.

“It was a shame the way it ended there,” said Murphy, who has made two senior appearances for Norwich.

“But I enjoyed my time at Blackpool and I felt that I helped them out while I was there.

“At a young age, you’re feeling your way in the game day by day and learning all the time.

“I’ve played under three different managers this season and I’ve learnt from all of them.

“I’ve come to Colchester to try and get first-team football and to improve my game."
