Dominic Vose admits Joe Dunne's decision to substitute him during Colchester United's 2-2 draw with Bristol City worked in the U's favour.

Dunne's decision to take off the impressive Vose with 14 minutes to go with the U's trailing 2-1 was jeered by some fans.

But a few minutes later, the Colchester manager celebrated animatedly on the touchline after Freddie Sears' fine strike earned a point for the hosts, at the Weston Homes Community Stadium.

Vose said: “The gaffer needed to change it which is fine and obviously it worked out for us.

“I wasn't disappointed about coming off and Searsy scored just afterwards, so that’s fine.

“It’s nice that the fans didn’t think I should have come off but the gaffer made the change and it worked for us."

Vose believes Colchester's point in coming from two goals down to draw with Bristol City could prove vital come the end of the season.

It means that they travel to leaders Wolverhampton Wanderers tomorrrow night sitting five points clear of the League One relegation zone, with nine games remaining.

“The point is massive," said Vose, who has impressed in the U's last two matches.

“We go to Wolves and that will stand us in good stead for that game.

“I enjoy playing in a central position and I try and get on the ball a lot.

“But I’m happy wherever I play in the team and I try and do my bit for the team and that’s the main thing.

“We did well to come back from two goals down and come back to draw.

“At 2-0 down it’s hard but they didn’t batter us.

“We were always in the game and we did well to dig in."
