Josh Thompson is hoping his permanent switch to Colchester United will help his career blossom.

The young defender has signed an 18-month contract with the U’s, after impressing during his loan spell from Portsmouth.

Thompson, 21, has already represented the likes of Celtic and Stockport County, along with a number of clubs on loan.

But now he has committed himself to Colchester until the end of the 2013-14 season, the lofty defender is keen to go from strength to strength and enjoy a flourishing professional career.

Thompson said: “I’m looking forward to being at a club for the longer term and making improvements to my game.

“I want to make Colchester my home and I think I can improve by being settled and that means consistency, both on and off the pitch."

Pushing aside the sending off on Boxing Day I think this guys got real potential. Very young so hopefully will fill out abit more and fit his 6ft 4 build. He played a fair few games for Celtic at a really young age. If him and Eastman could get a partnership going that could go on for well over a decade.
Have also read cowlings notes from website. Have to say it was actually encouraging. Although when alls said and done it will count for nothing if we go down. I know alot of people think this is a forgone conclusion but I'm sure Hartlepool, sunthorpe, bury and Portsmouth (with 10 point deduction also looming) think the same not to mention the teams above us within a few points. We were in a worse state when dunne took over and within a few games we thought we could make playoffs. Now I know that's not going to happens but with a good run we would be clear of the drop zone. Here's to happy 2013

I hope Josh is not going to make a habit of getting red cards. We don't need a player who makes himself unavailable.
As for O'Toole, good luck to him at Bristol Rovers, hope he helps them to stay up, and he has only gone on loan, so we get him back if Dunne wants him.
