Strong U's side cruise through in Essex Senior Cup
7:53am Thursday 20th December 2012 in Sport By Jonathan Waldron
On target - Clinton Morrison was on the scoresheet in Colchester United's big win over Brentwood Town.
An experienced Colchester United side beat Ryman League division one north outfit Brentwood Town 8-0 to progress to the fifth round of the Essex Senior Cup.
Two goals apiece from John-Joe O'Toole and Freddie Ladapo and further strikes from Clinton Morrison, Brian Wilson, Karl Duguid and Drey Wright helped the U's cruise through, at the Weston Homes Community Stadium.
Colchester fielded a very strong side, with the likes of goalkeeper Mark Cousins, Magnus Okuonghae and Marcus Bean also playing.
And Matt Heath made a welcome return from a calf injury, at the heart of the U's defence.
Colchester will play AFC Hornchurch in the next round of the competition.

I love the way some U's fans see 'non-league sides' as one big homogeneous group. Some of my mates did it after you thrashed Harlow, telling me how you would now do the same to the Clarets. Perhaps even the U's players did it themselves?
I hope we'll meet again in this, and I suspect many U's fans would want the same, a chance for a little revenge. Alas, I think it's unlikely. Our quarter-final with Concorde (who are not Brentwood, or Harlow), is the night before a Blue Square South fixture, in a January month now very hectic because of our cup run. Pity though, I went to that match at Melbourne hoping to City play at the WHCS...

Nice to see O'toole grabbing two goals too. Also is Freddie is so consistant in the reserves why isn't he given the chances in first team league games?
