Matt Heath has insisted he will not rush his injury comeback and risk any more setbacks.
The experienced Colchester United defender has been sidelined for nearly two months with hamstring and calf problems.
The 31-year-old is now edging closer to fitness and is hoping to return to training in the near future.
But Heath has stressed he will not return until the injury is fully healed.
Heath said: “I desperately want to play for the new gaffer but I just have to get myself fit.
“As much as I want to help the lads, it’ll be no good if I have another setback.
“I don’t want to say too much at this stage and jinx myself, especially as I’ve had a few minor setbacks over the last few weeks."
