Colchester United manager Joe Dunne has admitted he must sell before making any permanent signings when the transfer window reopens next month.
The U’s boss has drawn up a January shopping list with a view to bolstering his squad for the second half of the League One season.
However, in order to generate funds Dunne will have to allow current players to leave the Weston Homes Community Stadium.
That could mean the likes of highly-rated midfielder Anthony Wordsworth leaving Colchester, in order to generate cash.
Dunne said: “I expect movement in the January transfer window, both in and out."

I think it is more likely that we will see the experienced players stay, as well as the better youth players. Simply because we would have a squad of 12 players if we only had top players/earners. I think cuts will be made amongst the bigger earners.

We now have a Category II Academy and can go places in future, but our youth players are perhaps not quite ready, except for Drey Wright.
I reckon Joe is going to bring in a host of new exciting players, whilst off-loading whatever he can to reduce wages. He will be hampered by existing longevity of contracts, so some of those discarded might not be on the fans list for an exit.
It's vital that the fans back him, and accept that within our new attractive passing style we win more, lose more and draw less. Four wins from 10 games (12 pts) is better than ten draws - but we might lose six.
