U's sign goalkeeper Sullivan

New arrival - Colchester United have signed Charlton Athletic goalkeeper John Sullivan on a month's loan.
Colchester United have signed Charlton Athletic goalkeeper John Sullivan on a month's loan.
Sullivan, 24, will battle it out for the U's number one spot with Mark Cousins, after Carl Pentney joined non-league side Histon on a month's loan.
Sullivan began his career at Brighton and Hove Albion before joining Millwall and spent time on loan at Yeovil Town in the 2010-11 season.
The U's have also been linked with a loan swoop for Portsmouth centre-back Josh Thompson, as boss Joe Dunne looks to strengthen his defensive options.

Pentney is supposed to be a good keeper, so let's be seeing him.
I don't want to see him getting the push as part of crazy's end-of-season clear-out, if he has never had the chance to prove himself.

That said cousins has not made the position his own and 'the goalkeeper' is not a position we can dawdle on and dedicate match time too hoping for everything to be ok next time.
I believe that cousins will make a good goalkeeper for a club somewhere. Somewhere that the back four are all like Eastman and clear 8/10 crosses and corners, so that cousins can stick to what he is best at, shot stopping, reflex, kicking, and handling. Sadly at Colchester, we cannot just buy 2 or 3 new defenders so for now it is the goalkeeper that needs replacing.
Crazy is correct in saying we need to give dunne till the end of the season before any judging of him. And I think what he is trying to say, is that he should be tried and tested at that point on who he brings in and releases rather than the dead wood of the fans opinion.
Lastly boris, I agree about pentney. But 'being a supposedly good goalkeeper' does not mean he is one, and dunne might perhaps not share that point of view. Lets give this new guy the chance to shine and hope he does well regardless of if pentney is/isn't a good goalie, local lad or otherwise, and same for cousins.

I dont think there is any judgment of Joe Dunne going on. He made a great start as Manager and has had a couple of poor performances and defeats but fair play to him he has gone out and addressed the situation by bringing a couple of new faces in. I disagree with Crazy on the fnishing position, I think mid table is a reasonable expectation but any talk of Play Offs is ridiculous. Joe Dunne is a young manager learning and he is going to make mistakes. I would rather he at the helm than John Ward though. I am concerned that Freddie Sears has yet again gone to another club and is failing to deliver. We gave him a 4 year contract as we thought he would shine and a Championship club would come in with big money soon enough. He isnt hungry enough and I know that Dunne doesnnt fancy him and he,Morrison, White and Pentney may not be around long if they can offload.
