Colchester United have tabled a bid for Aldershot striker Marvin Morgan, according to reports.

Manager John Ward has said he is searching for a new front man after the departures of Clive Platt and Joel Thomas last week and chairman Robbie Cowling told the Gazette the U's boss has funds available to bolster his squad ahead of Saturday's npower League One opener at Exeter City.

Morgan scored the Shots first goal in their 2-1 pre-season win against Colchester last weekend.

The 27-year-old struck 16 times for Aldershot last and is believed to have attracted interest from other league clubs over the summer.

However, he recently stated that he is happy at Aldershot.
