Clive Platt believes John Ward can bring success to Colchester United this season.
The experienced striker has quit the Weston Homes Community Stadium to join former boss Aidy Boothroyd at Coventry City.
The 32-year-old has linked up with the Sky Blues for a nominal fee and is looking forward to returning to Championship football.
However, he is keen to stress how much he has enjoyed his three-year spell at Colchester.
And he is sure that given the right backing, the U’s are in safe hands under new boss Ward.
Platt told the Gazette: “John Ward has been absolutely brilliant and I think he’s a great appointment for the club.
“The club will do well under him, if he is given the right support.
“I’ve got lots of happy memories of playing for Colchester and I had a great three years there."
