A first-half strike from Freddie Ladapo helped Colchester United record their first-ever under-21 league win.

The U's beat Swansea City at the Weston Homes Community Stadium, in their second game in the newly-formed league.

Colchester's winning goal came after 16 minutes when Ladapo converted Drey Wright's cross from close range.

Gavin Massey, making his first start in U's colours since his move from Championship club Watford last week, went close soon after as did Ladapo before half-time.

Colchester keeper Shaun Phillips was well protected by his defence in the second half and when the Swans had a player sent off near the end, there was no way back for the visitors.

Meanwhile, young Colchester defender Tom Aldred has joined Blue Square Bet Premier side Barrow on a month's loan.

Let's hope the winning habit can extend to the first team; otherwise we could do a lot worse than just put the youngsters out!
