Colchester knocked out of Capital One Cup

Colchester United bowed out of the Capital One Cup at the first hurdle tonight after losing 3-0 at Yeovil Town.

The U's found themselves behind inside the fourth minute when defender Richard Hinds finshed emphatically, after the visitors were unable to clear a corner.

And Hinds powered in a header from another set piece just before half-time from an Ed Upson corner.

The U's tried to get back into the tie after half-time but the tie was over when Glovers substitute Keanu Marsh Brown polished off Reuben Reid's pass with 11 minutes to go.

U's keeper Mark Cousins saved from Marsh Brown and Nathan Ralph rattled the bar from close range for Yeovil, as the U's bowed out of the League Cup at the first-round stage.

On the basis of last night's evidence, I can only foresee a season of struggle. I am hoping this is a one-off, but I fear the worst. Sadly looks like Morrison is going to struggle and his better days are behind him. The defence was too easily breached, and if it wasn't for Cousins in goal it could have been six or seven-nil. Wright was the liveliest player onfield, but got substituted. Is there anyone else who can take people on, or even have a shot at goal maybe?!

I take it that you saw the game last night. You echo the same thoughts that I do.We got away lightly on the scoreline. It could ghave easily been more. We badly need someone like David Fox who was wasted at Colchester to go forward and open defences up, as we create nothing. Regards Morrison I never made any comments or remarks when he was signed. Most supporters on this site thought this was a brilliant signing. I had my reservations as ive seen him play a few times and kept my lips tightly sealed. When we signed Morrison I then delved into the Sheffield press which was full of blogs mostly describing him as lazy, total crap and they were glad to see the back of him god riddance. However in my mind any player still deserves a fresh start and joining a fresh club can often work wonders. I'm still hopefull that will happen and that John Ward can extract the best from Clinton. I think Phil Parkinson made one of the best signings this year in getting Allen Connel from Swindon. Even Swindon fans were bemused that Di Canio let him go for free after paying £150 K .I saw him play a few times last season for Swindon and he would have been a great striker for us. I love energy players with fight and he certainly was that. I will watch his progress at Bradford with interest.

You're right Crazy - we have to give a player a chance; time will tell of course. One swallow doesn't make a summer, and one bad performance doesn't set the season if we can learn from it. I can't get to many matches due to location, but could get to this one. Perhaps I will have learned from that experience too! Interesting point about Parky - it will be interesting to see Bradford's progress this season under him. Still a very astute manager I reckon...
